Colson Patisserie

Brooklyn's version of the Belgian bakery of the same name. French born film-maker trained with the culinary creator Hubert in Belgium to bring us this high lavel bakery. I rediscovered this patiserrie on Sunday after a long absence. Originally, there upon opening the baked goods look absolutely gorgeous. Traditional pastries, scones, breads, brioches and cookies. A chocolate chip cookie was super-fine and one of the finest around. Almond/chocolate croissant was also well done. Worth exploring more especially considering this one block of 9th street houses Colson and Almondine bakery.

Almondine Bakery

Almondine bakery finally opened Slope side on the corner of 7th Ave. and ninth street. This Dumbo fave features amazing breads, baguettes, and sublime pastries. The colorful macaroons are fruity tasty concoctions and who could resist a raspberry beignet with coffee. This bakery serves the classics done with an artisan touch. Plenty of seating room in the space which has deriguer P.S. exposed brick and two bathrooms in the rear. Welcome to your new home Almondine.

Scratchbread@Toby's Public House

Owner and baker Matthew Tilden rents out the rustic brick oven at Toby's Public House for a few hours a night. In that time he creates artisan bread and foccacia. This is amazing bread, properly darkly baked and using hand chosen ingredients. These loaves of love include olive, tomato focaccia, mushroom and just plain baguettes. Bread this great excites me and so I took home a few. Dense, flavorfull and absoulutely fantastic.

Tres Pommes Patisserie

This is my one of my favorite spots on Fifth Ave, near Garfield Street in the Slopey, Slope. This charming spot owned by the former pastry chef at the ever popular Union Square Cafe in Union Square churns out amazing baked goodies plus homemade ice-cream and chocolates. Everything is simply delish here, with an expert at the helm. My personal faves are the sticky pecan bun loaded with sugary pecans and molasses baked to a golden dark hue, banana bread, homemade oreo cookies, brownies and rocking homemade hazelnut chocolates with a hazelnut on top. A recent addition of jelly donuts are simply killer with a beautifully fried donut with a layer of raspberry jelly and lots of sugar on top. Her ice-creams are luscious which as you know I have a thing for ice-cream. All are creamy fresh and good with a homemade waffle cone, but the caramel ice-cream with caramel pieces is simply delisiouso. Mine yesterday was soft and tasted like caramelized dark brown sugar with crispy caramel pieces, oh so yummy. A few tables are up in front of the store with the kitchen and other baking and ice-cream paraphanalia in the back. A small purple bathroom in the back is there if you need it.
